An Arsenal fan hung himself following his team’s 4-1 aggregate drubbing by arch-rivals Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final, police said.

Empics

Arsenal lost 3-1 to United in the second leg of their semi-final tie.
Suleiman Alphonso Omondi, a 29-year-old Kenyan living in the capital Nairobi’s Embakasi neighbourhood, hanged himself in his Arsenal shirt after the match.

“We were watching the match at Bamba 70 pub, and when Arsenal was defeated, Suleiman just walked out in protest and he was crying,” Calvin Otieno, one of his friends, said.

“We didn’t know he was going to hang himself until this morning when we received the reports and came here to find his body at the balcony,” Otieno said outside the deceased’s home.

Arsenal slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, capping a disappointing season for the Gunners who were already out of the Premier League title race early in the season.

wrong. wrong wrong. not worth it man. why add to Arsenal’s misery? Life’s not worth losing over a single game- or any match for that matter. We must not let setbacks set us back,asWenger so valiantly has struggled on in our past 4-5 trophyless season- at this time, i must question whether Wenger is more preoccupied with developing youngsters or winning trophies. It’s most definitely impossible to achieve both at the same time- look at the other Big 3. average age not 21-22! and Wenger has had enough sense to recognise this- in his purchase of the brilliant Arshavin. Let’s hope he builds on this next season- some of our midfielders/youngsters are still too lightweight and not growing fast enough. …

Life’s but a game- Play On.

Robin van Persie: No Time To Feel Sorry For Ourselves

Robin van Persie has warned his Arsenal team-mates that failure to bounce back immediately from their FA Cup semifinal defeat against city rivals Chelsea could cost them severely considering the amount of big games they have coming up.

Indeed, the Gunners have hardly been afforded any time to digest the bitter defeat as they are set to lock horns with Liverpool in the league on Tuesday, after which they will still have to pay the other two of the big four as well as the small matter of two European dates with destiny against Manchester United – and that all within the next five weeks.

“We still have two targets now – that is the Champions League final and to finish fourth or even third in the league,” van Persie was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News after the dramatic 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday.

“We are disappointed, but we need to get our stuff together and fight for the other two titles.

“We have to play the game against Liverpool on Tuesday now, whether you are happy or if you are not happy.

“It is the Premier League and we need those points, but I am confident because we have strong characters.

“Every experience makes you stronger, a good one and definitely a bad one,” the Dutchman added.

“We have to look game by game because if you look at the schedule from now until the end of the season, it makes you a bit dizzy because we have big games every three or four days.”

Not every day does one hear such words spew forth. Simply, it’s about professionalism here. Made a mistake? ok boo-hoo. Move on. You still have games to play and titles to win.

As Mrs Perry explained-Don’t let setbacks set you back.

Bounce back immediately, or you have a long way to get back.

Just Do It.

“Above all, don’t fear difficult moments,” she said. “The best comes from them.”

On the brink, and i
Play on.

Orientation

HH07 FTW! i’ve got some imba og mates and quite apparently an imba ogl. though there be lingering unease and uncertainty over the OG name- O$P$- i guess its still a name. What’s more impt is that our OG can become imba-ly bonded and we’ll all have fun times and memories of orientation. and that i can make new friends and enhance existing relationships. I really appreciate all the saikang the councillors have put in to ensure the success of the Orientation. On Sat, i spied two BB gals putting up a cardboard Humpty Dumpty, i remembered having a laugh because well, humpty dumpty kept falling down- it wasn’t easy to put him back again. hahas xD and God save the HCJC councillors who have 2 weeks of orientation saikang!

and so, as one life ends, another begins- O’tiero ‘09, HH07 FTW!

CCA

now, since every single RJ person is a mugger, and the mugging-rat-race hasn’t yet began, the hottest topic has been that of your CCA. For those who regretted thier secondary choices, a fresh start, a clean sheet- a new hope. For those who enjoyed thier secondary choices, continuity reigns. Wadeva the choice, from Bridge to Boys’ Brigade, the choices are aplenty. Alas, competition is still the name of the game, and trials- by fire, sweat or tears- serve as the gatekeepers. Not many, make it through. As i forage deeper, scraping the bottom, CCA by CCA,  sometimes i wonder, am i letting myself down by not going for those i desire, or am i letting the cca down? by professing desires false. Anyhow, anyway, CCAs must be chosen and i do not dare dream that i’m spoilt for choice, rather, the choices are spoilt for me. all that remains, glittering forth, from the smouldering embers of my CCA-topia are HISSOC, RECAS, LawSoc, Frisbee and Council. alas, do not think the worse of the above, for as already intoned by Brutus centuries past, it is not that i love thee less, but that i loved soccer more. So as the results of trials are announced, as the O’s ppl come in, till the time when choices must be made, i’m not so much caught in a dilemma, as ensnared in the perils of decision-making. Well, we’ll cross the bridge when it comes.

Curriculum

RJ does like to keep its students in the dark. up till now, i have no idea if i’m in Humans Prog or not. Well, probably, but i won’t rest(or stop worrying) till i see it in black and white- i’ve had too many false alarms to make asses of out u and me. Anyway, HELM’s sure to be a blast, though i’m currently apprehensive about the reading-load of Literature, History and Econs together. argh, volumes upon copious volumes, not forgetting GP too! Hopefully, i’ll know ppl in my class and i probably will, what with 4k being a humans class et al. The RJ system has a remarkable track record, and i’m sure i’ll come out okay. We’ll wait and see, with bated breath.

Girls

Now, where would we be without them? What can i say? RG gals are tough. Perhaps, that’s how the cookie crumbles. Everybody knows i’m the noob moping the corner. but who knows how it’ll go? wish me luck! :D

Me

I don’t wanna be verbose. My wish is simple- PIA! and no regrets.

no. regrets.

as february dawns.

who dares yawn?

Fight.

Game over ?

ok, i dun wan to go to in depth abt this, and anybody and everybody would hav already known the old news.

well, thanks ppl for the perspective. TGIHF- thank God i have friends :D

well, the measure of my heartbreak has not, did not, and most probably will not reach Suicidal levels. So i guess you’ll still see me now and then.

and so we move on.

and live lives worthy.

Clubs & Council FTW.

The Big 3 ++

well. i guess the scoreline was fair. as neither team did enough to deserve the share of the points. Arsenal 2- Villa 2. a deserved draw…

anyone watching this game and anyone with brains can appreciate the battling display from both sides. allow me to exprain.

Villa were playing long ball. the very antithesis of how Arsenal played. if you’d noticed. Villa din’t really try to play through the middle. their efforts were concentrated on pumping the long ball from midfield for Young, Gabby/Milner to chase down. whereas, Arsenal,  symptomatic of the chronic lack of  wingers, played mightily down the middle, as if they din’t know what a ‘cross’ was. everytime get down the side, stop and pass to middle. as if the middle wasn’t crowded enough with Villa playing 4-5-1.

so, as the statistics will show, Arsenal played mostly a counter-attacking game because thier probing so did not work that well against the hard tackling Villa DCs. while Villa, as expected, threatened with the sheer pace of thier frontline.

ok, i’m not totally against the long-ball tactic- it’s direct, it’s fast-pass, and much simpler to play. but there is a time & place for everything. and if you dunno how to play long ball, don’t do it! waste everybody’s time. hello. it’s football. no one’s flying on broomsticks. hit so high for wad.

u wan play long ball? can. but u make sure your balls are sexily delivered. That’s where villa comes in. with Barry, Sidwell and Petrov, are well suited to the long ball game. plus a couple of people with pace to burn, it becomes very effective. very.

Defence.

Looking at how many times they hit the post in the first half, Sagna’s bicycle clearance(must watch!) and the last-ditch tackles. it came as no surprise that we went down to a penalty and a despo late-long-ball. Honestly, though our defence has steeled considerably since the previous games- sadly, it still ain’t cutting it. not when, once again, we went down in the second-last-minute of the game. Is it physical? is it mental? i say- it’s quality.

Arsenal is a club of gamblers. far bigger gamblers than the other 3. We gamble on potential turning into quality. we gamble on quality, choosing to bet on potential instead. s

ometimes, we live up to that potential. but too often, we’ve lost the gamble. and the stakes are getting too much. too much. don’t even talk about title. even qualifying for e Champion’s League is becoming less and less of a given. how has this happened? 4 short years since the Invincibles.

easy. quality- the lack thereof.

go on. get ur glasses. and compare the two squads. without Adebayor, Walcott, Fabregas, Rosicky. Arsenal looks like some mid-table squad- hardly befitting of its Big 4 status. how many match-winners do we have? how many men of proven quality have we have?

srsly, how long can we go on like this? this gamble ain’t got no quality left.

Arsenal slipping. Villa rising.

what is Wenger thinking?

Merry Christmas 08

Posted by: richyu on: 24/12/2008

now as any good, abiding teenybopper will know, Christmas is a time for merriment, as already made explicit.

Now’s not a good time, nor a good place, to go into a rant about the blatant commercialization of Christmas and wadnot.

it’s a time to spam smses and await, the very polite, very merry, and very impersonal and much-replicated sms replies.

not a good time to change your phone eh? which is precisely what i did. so now, i dunno who i replying to. that is,
if i reply.

anyway, here’s a merry christmas to all ya reader(s) out there and happy new year. (we’ll save the emo-regretful-mournful posts for later).

for christmas, is a time to make merry ;D

so what’s the diff? the players.

just raced through around 4 hrs of the latest Taiwan Idol Drama: 篮球火 。 predictably enough, it is replete with the staples, bumbling hero goes on a journey, becomes the best and gets the gal at the end. or so i thought. well, as far as i’ve watched, it’s been going pretty much the way my Lit worksheets says it should go.

ok ok the point is, i was adverse to watching it because i thought it was all bball stuff, and i so dun get bball stuff. i much prefer football, please. but then as things went on, as all Lit students should and must profess to have: i had an epiphany, a fleeting one that is e purpose of this post.

the battles on the pitch and off the pitch, different games, different rules, different people but sharing selfsame lives and feeling selfsame emotions. (thats why being a fan is a great thrill ride). basically, its the same game we all play, albeit on different pitches, in different courts, in different arenas, and on different stages- we all play the same game. no, not WOW.

its e game of life(not to be confused with a certain board game)- and i’m beginning to realise there aren’t that many different ingredients.

purpose.focus.

diligence.discipline.

will.

and as any other and most certainly, every other fan of the game( or any other game for that matter), will tell you, it is always, first and foremost- the love of the game.

play on.

it’s O’ver.

so went my first ever, and last ever O level paper. funny how this paper almost always spells the death of Chinese forevea and eva. coupled with a late flurry becuz of the highly worryingly Humans Programme Application, the last 2 days wasn’t easy.

so many things have happened. so many have changed. I can already imagine the History paper in 20,50 years time- “What is the most important factor behind the rise of Obama?” [15m] he’s just so phenonmenal, so ground-breaking, a breath of fresh air actually. I wonder if such can happen in Singapore?

and so as RI life draws to an end, with the twin-finale of Grad Ceremony and Grad Nite, we turn to the future, as unpredictable, as uknown, and as hopeful. RJ’s gonna be a whole new ball game, pun and double meaning intended(did u geddit?) , trembling in fearful excitement already.

i realli have to make a commitment to blog more, so i can devote more time to each significant issue and not do it so bulletin style. No nice, no fun, not me.

so with reference to Chien’s comment- a very sinister and insidious one, but for those in the know, immediately relevant and well, i guess it is a good kick up my lazy a$$ to get myself into gear. so for those who have expressed thier doubts and disbelief in the nicest and most-considerate manner, i thank you for not putting me down before it even started. and for those who’ve expressed encouragement, i than-wait. that’s a grand total of zero. ah well. :/

and well, thks chien for the exhortation and i guess i’ll get to work, for me own’s sake.

so bye-bye RI(S) and helllo holidays
